Though this dog that originated in England has a bloody past of bullbaiting, the ferociousness is now gone.  These dogs make great and gentle companions who are affectionate and low-maintenance.  As long as they are kept out of extreme weather, they are happy and will be happy laying with you on the couch.  Though he looks a little ferocious, he is a very sweet and loving family dog.  Their distinctive look means that everyone will know a bulldog when they see one.  The medium-sized dog is thick-set with a low body.  His short-muzzled head is large and square and his shoulders and chest are broad.  Even though he is strong and muscular he is a lover, not a fighter.  He carries himself with dignity and may even be a little bit stubborn.
